Wilhite Cemetery is an old, public cemetery located about seven miles north of Mt. Pleasant and about 150 yards east of FM Highway 1402.  The cemetery is named after Church Wilhite, one of Titus County's pioneering families who initially donated the land.

The cemetery has a very good fence around it and is well maintained.  It was recently enlarged and will accommodate a large number of future burials.

Several graves are unmarked except for nine native rocks, one petrified rock, an unreadable funeral home marker, one marker with C. W. inscribed, and another granite marker with the initials E. D. C..  These markers are believed to have once been Edward Cox's and Church Wilhite's foot stones that were moved to a random location when their Civil War markers were installed.

In addition to the above, there appears to be the graves of two infants marked with cement slabs at the head and foot of the grave.  No doubt there are other unmarked graves in the cemetery, but it was impossible to be sure when the cemetery was surveyed.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM THE TITUS COUNTY COURTHOUSE:

Travel 1.4 miles north on North Jefferson Street (Business U.S. 271) to its intersection with Burton Road (the south service road of Interstate 30).

Turn right (east) onto the service road and continue 0.5 miles to the intersection of Texas Farm Road 1402 (Harts Bluff Road).

Turn left (north) at the stop sign and cross Interstate 30 on FM 1402.  Proceed for 4.3 miles.

The cemetery lies on the right (east) side of the road about 150 yards across an open pasture bordered by a bright white rail fence.  An unmarked dirt road provides easy access to the cemetery from FM 1402.
