Titus County has two Springhill cemeteries. The cemetery described here is in southeastern Titus County near the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, which we referred to as Springhill Southeast. We refer to the other cemetery as Springhill North.
Springhill Southeast is an old public cemetery that is fenced and kept in very good condition. A sign beside the entrance gate states that "Decoration Day" is held the third Sunday in May. Mail dontations to 2310 Highway 11 W. Daingerfield, TX.
Numerous irregular grave makers do not identify those buried. Examples are wooden crosses, petrified wood, native rocks, bricks, a piece of broken concrete, and a concrete block and unreadable funeral home markers. Others only partially identify those buried, like a steel plate with Mac Kengie written on it, a piece of concrete inscribed "a loving husband and a fine father", and funeral home markers reading "J ....(unreadable) Smith", Callie Smith, and Lonnie Smith. The top of a monument inscribed Mary E. Pitt was piled in a corner of the cemetery. It is said that Mary E. Pitt's monument was one of two removed from Russel Cemetery and brought to Springhill Cemetery, but never installed. The other monument has disappeared.
