Marshall Springs Cemetery
Marshall Springs Community, Titus County, Texas
Marshall Springs Cemetery is a medium sized cemetery in far Northwest Titus County. Little is known of its beginnings, and its ending has yet to be determined since the possibility of future burials remains. Lynch Harper's "Cemeteries of Titus County" presents an interesting history of some of the families and land transfers relating either directly or indirectly with the cemetery.
The cemetery's pristine setting and remote location implies that it has more historical significance than is presented here. The cemetery presents an interesting landmark with its chain link fence, the arch over the entryway announcing the name of the cemetery, and its well maintained grounds. The only negative appearance is surface soil being washed away with each rain.
Blackburn, Lane, Kirk, and Keener family members are buried in the cemetery. The only remaining grave markers other than monuments are fourteen concrete slabs. A broken monument with missing parts and inscribed only with a death date of August 22, 1881 was found under the fence. Investigation revealed that Samuel Biggart, born March 21, 1852, died on that date.
