The Lone Star Cemetery is located in far Northeastern Titus County.  It has a very unique character relative to other Titus County cemeteries.  It is completely devoid of trees.  All monuments are laid out in straight lines as a restriction of the deed granted by R. H. Johnson to the Lone Star School Community.  Further, Lynch Harper states in his "Cemeteries of Titus County" that every grave, at the time of his writing, had a name on it.

A chain link fence surrounds the three acre cemetery and the grounds are excellently maintained.  The cemetery committee receives donations from friends and relatives of the interred and a special drive is conducted annually during a decoration day service.  A business meeting is conducted on that day.

The cemetery committee implemented a project that has resulted in placement of concrete slabs imprinted with names at each known grave not having a monument. Many of those slabs remain today but their readability is diminishing.   No irregular markers like rocks, wooden stakes, etc. remain.  However, another style of concrete marker had some lettering painted on its side, and there was an unreadable funeral home marker and two flat concrete plates with "Morton" imprinted on them.

From an historical standpoint, the first person buried in the cemetery appears to be Talmage Denny, a small child buried in 1911. The earliest birth date belongs to Mary F. Roach who was born August 20, 1839.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM THE TITUS COUNTY COURTHOUSE:

Travel 1.4 miles North on North Jefferson Street (Business U.S. 271) to its intersection with Burton Road (the south service road of Interstate 30).  Turn right (east) onto the service road.  The Interstate 30 entrance ramp is 0.2 mile on the left from the intersection. Enter IH-30 and proceed 8 miles East.  Exit at Exit 170 FM 1993. Turn right (south) at the ramp's stop sign onto FM 1993. Proceed 0.1 mile to the intersection of County Road 3140 and turn left (east) onto CR 3140. After 1.9 miles the road intersects with CR3180. Turn right onto CR3180 and proceed 1.0 mile. The cemetery lies on the right.

Note: When we visited Lone Star Cemetery on 11-18-2006, the County apparently had installed an incorrect road sign at the intersection, or someone had swapped one of the signs.  The signs showed CR 3130 and CR 3147, however ATCOG 9-1-1 map, which assigns the road numbers, shows 3130 and 3180.
