Liberty Hill Cemetery is located at the Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church in rural Northeast Titus County. It is one of the largest rural cemeteries in the county. Not much history was found on the cemetery's origin, but on October 22, 1879, Samuel J. Wright deeded the original two acres of land for the sum of $4.00 to Archabald Cameron, E. J. Johnson and William Griffin to be used exclusively for a school, church and cemetery. Different people deeded other parcels later.
As with most Titus County Cemeteries, Liberty Hill depends on the donations of friends and relatives of those interred here for funding. Annual Decoration Day services are held at 10:00 AM on the 4th Saturday of April to honor those interred by placing flowers and ornaments on the graves and socializing with a covered dish luncheon. A special effort is made to gather donations that day.
A chain link fence surrounds the cemetery and the grounds very well maintained. Some time ago known, but unmarked, grave sites were marked with small, flat concrete slabs. Two hundred fourteen of these markers remain. Other grave sites are marked by 2 concrete foundation blocks, 2 regular concrete building blocks, 8 funeral home markers, 17 chunks of petrified wood, a granite block , a small ceramic cross, 7 concrete slabs measuring roughly 6"x6"x18", a funeral home marker with only “Diana” written on it, 3 native stones, a broken clay pot, a concrete slab that has “Miller” written over “Charlton” on it, a monument base without a monument, and 1 granite slab.
