Greathouse Cemetery is one of Mount Pleasant's oldest cemeteries.  It is located at 510 Red Springs Avenue in the South side a private residence yard.  There have been no burials in the cemetery in the last 90 years or more.

A four foot high concrete wall encloses the area of about 30 feet square.  Mary B. Edwards (formerly Greathouse) erected a single monument in the center of the cemetery to the memory of T. H. and Mary Greathouse, her mother and father, and members of the Greathouse, Snodgrass, and Turner families (Mary H. Greathouse was formerly a Turner).

The monument is inscribed as follows:

West Side of Monument: Erected to memory of our loved ones. By Mary B. Edwards
North Side of Monument: Father & Mother T. H. Greathouse Mary H. Greathouse his wife
East Side of Monument: Daughters Mattie, Addie, Abbie twins ? Son Delbert Greathouse
South Side of Monument: Great Snodgrass Grandmother Turner ? Gone but not forgotten

The cemetery, like the neighborhood, isn't what it once was and has been allowed to run down.  Two fairly large trees and several sapplings now grow inside the walls enclosing the cemetery, and some light trash and leaves have collected.

The cemetery's concrete walls assure that it will not be lost for many years, but it needs cleaning and maintenance fairly soon to preserve it in good condition for years to come.  Trees inside the concrete walls should be removed before they become too large to handle and to prevent their roots from undermining the walls and monument.
