Titus County has two Farmers Academy communities, created when Interstate 30 construction split the larger rural community in two and left one part to the North of the new Interstate and one to the South.

The Farmers Academy cemetery is a large public cemetery located on the North side of Interstate 30 and South of U.S. Highway 67 in southwestern Titus County.

A deed records that W. A. (Bud) Williams sold and gave the cemetery's first two acres of land on February 4, 1918 "for the burial of whites only and none other."  This deed, referenced to Oleta Redfearn's grave, provides a pretty good record of the cemetery's beginning. The Oleta Redfearn monument, dated October 22, 1917, is the earliest found in the cemetery and is located immediately to the right of the entrance gate.

The cemetery is well maintained and appears to have ample expansion room.  A chain link fence surrounds the cemetery perimeter and an ornate cast iron gate with brick columns and provides the entrance.

Farmer's Academy, like most area cemeteries, contains a variety of irregular grave markers including funeral home markers, a broken marble slab with no inscription, concrete slabs, square concrete posts, native stones, and bricks in addition to commercially made monuments.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM THE TITUS COUNTY COURTHOUSE:

Travel 0.5 miles West on West First Street to the intersection of Ferguson Road (U.S. 271).  Veer right and enter Ferguson Road.  Continue West 1.3 miles to the intersection of U.S. Highway 67.  Turn left onto US 67 and drive 1.5 miles until County Road 1030 intersects Highway 67 from the left after you cross under Interstate 30.  As you approach, the Farmer's Academy church and cemetery sign is easily visible outside the cemetery fence on a hill in the left right-of-way of Highway 67.  Turn left on County Road 1030.  The main cemetery entrance is 0.1 mile on the left, across from the Farmers Academy Congregational Methodist Church.  The church parking lot provides ample paved parking so long as it is not in use.
