Emmanuel Cemetery was established upon the death of Kay Arlene Murrell on June 14, 2005. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Cookville, Texas, and the cemetery's first (and currently only) interment. The cemetery was established on land that the church owns behind the church and is still under construction at the time this description was updated.
Brother Gib Johnson, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, said that the church is planning to fence the cemetery, and will add driveways around the cemetery after dirt work that has been planned is completed. A gate is planned for the cemetery entrance, which faces Titus County Road .
Church funds will be used to build and maintain the cemetery and burial spaces will be reserved for church members only. The church may consider other burial requests on a case by case basis, but the cemetery is not intended to be a public cemetery.
