Emerson Cemetery is located about 6 miles southwest of Mt. Pleasant in West Central Titus County on lands now being mined for coal in Luminant (formerly Texas Utilities or TXU) Winfield South mine.

Former landmarks to the cemetery are no longer are valid.  Alfred Redfearn owned the land when Lynch Harper's "Cemeteries of Titus County" was written, and the cemetery was behind his barn.  A specific deed sets aside the one acre for cemetery purposes.  The cemetery is on land within the J. C. Stewart Headright survey, Abstract #503.

A chain link fence surrounds the cemetery and Luminant maintains the cemetery by clearing weeds and briars each year.  The cemetery was in very good condition when we visited it to photograph it in January, 2007, and we appreciate Luminant's care for it.

In addition to grave sites marked by monuments, eight cement blocks were placed to supposedly mark known grave sites lacking them.

Access requires an appointment and escort, since the cemetery is on Luminant mine property.  Directions to the cemetery are not given since special permission must be obtained from mine property managers.

Emerson Cemetery sits inside the Luminant Winfield South coal mine.  Luminant does a fine job of maintaining the cemetery, cleaning it once each year.
