East New Hope Cemetery is a large public cemetery, located across the road from the East New Hope Baptist Church in rural southeast Titus County. The cemetery is surrounded by a chain link fence and wrought iron entry gates framed by brick columns form its entrance. The brick columns are topped with a large arched sign. The cemetery is well maintained and was recently enlarged to accommodate burials well into the future. Very little cemetery history was found, even though it contains some of Titus County's earliest graves. The earliest burial date shown on a tombstone is that of Mary Madison in 1886. Lynch Harper's “Cemeteries of Titus County” states that the earliest cemetery deed was in 1898.
Unlike similar cemeteries, only one native stone and one concrete block marker were found in the cemetery which may indicate that similar markers were removed to facilitate maintenance. Twenty seven granite plates that must have been installed to mark known grave sites that were without monuments were found during the survey.
