DeShields Cemetery, sometimes called DeShiell, is a medium sized cemetery located about 2 miles North of the Sugar Hill Community Center in Northeast Titus County.  It is an easily accessed public cemetery long used for community burial.  The cemetery is well laid out and neatly maintained.  A chain link fence encloses the current acreage, and the Blalock family has started a new section in an adjoining enclosure that contains one triple monument for three Blalock family members.

Graves without monuments are marked in various manners including native stones, concrete slabs and blocks, a funeral home marker, bullet shaped concrete structures, and a petrified rock.  Numerous empty spaces are apparently other grave locations.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM THE TITUS COUNTY COURTHOUSE:

Travel 1.4 miles north on North Jefferson Street (Business U.S. 271) to its intersection with Burton Road (the south service road of Interstate 30).  Turn right (east) onto the service road and continue 0.5 miles to the intersection of Texas Farm Road 1402 (Harts Bluff Road).

Turn left (north) at the stop sign and cross Interstate 30 on Texas FM 1402.  Proceed for 12.4 miles to the intersection of FM 71.

Turn right (east) onto Texas FM 71 and then, almost an immediate left (north) onto Titus County Road 3920. This county road will intersect County Road 1915 after 0.9 mile. Turn right (east) at County Road 1915. The DeShields cemetery entrance drive is 0.6 mile from that intersection. The cemetery sits to right about 0.1 mile.
