Cookville Cemetery is a small public cemetery located in Cookville, Texas in eastern Titus County. Folklore says that A. B. Cook donated the land for the cemetery, and the town and cemetery were named for him.
Cookville has an interesting history and the cemetery attests to some of it. It is located on old U.S. Highway 67, predecessor to the current Highway 67 and now Titus County Road 4045. The town once thrived with multiple businesses and industries, but like many small towns has become a shadow of its former self as time and progress have passed it by. The cemetery is fenced and kept in good condition. It contains two wrought iron enclosures with no identification of the person buried there and two unidentified graves covered with concrete and rock.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM THE TITUS COUNTY COURTHOUSE:
Drive 1.0 mile north on Jefferson Street (U.S. Highway 271 Business) to the intersection with U.S. Highway 67 (16th Street). Turn right (east) on U.S. 67 and continue 6.4 miles. Turn right (south) on Cemetery Road** and continue for 0.1 mile. Cookville Cemetery is on the left at the northeast corner of Titus County Road 4045. The cemetery entrance gate is on County Road 4045.
** Cemetery Road and Titus County Road 3151 is the same road. Cemetery Road/CR 3151 runs north-south between U.S. Highway 67 and Titus County Road 4045, down the west side of both Phillips-Taylor Cemetery and Cookville Cemetery. A green informational sign on U.S. Highway 67 says "Cemetery Road", as does the street sign at Highway 67 (the north end). The county road sign at the south end of the same road (approx 2 short blocks) marks Cemetery Road as Titus County Road 3151.
