Belcher Cemetery replaces fence
Belcher Cemetery, located on Texas FM 71 east of Talco, replaced their fence and cemetery sign in 2006. The old gate and fence that had served the cemetery for years was removed, and the fence was replaced by a new chain link fence. A new sign created from a large granite maker was installed by the gate. The Belcher Cemetery is very clean and well maintained.
Barrett Cemetery needs help to build new fence
Barrett Cemetery Association, with the help of Titus County Commissioner Mike Fields and Texas Utilities, has done an excellent job of cleaning and restoring their cemetery. The last remaining project is to build a new chain link fence around the cemetery. The Cemetery Assocation does not have a trust fund and has accomplished all of its excellent work from donations and volunteer efforts. The cost to build the new fence is more than the Cemetery Assocation now has in its bank account. The Cemetery Association needs help to be able to fence the entire cemetery. People who would like to donate to help build the fence may make a donation to the Barrett Cemetery Association at at Pilgrim Bank, or may mail donations to:

Titus County Cemeteries Need Your Help
Several Titus County cemeteries are in danger of being overgrown and lost due to lack of care. Please see our Cemetery Preservation page by clicking "Cemetery Preservation" on the left side of this page. Please contact us if you would like to help preserve Titus County's cemeteries, which are a large part of Titus County history and should be returned to dignified final resting places for our ancestors.
Titus County Commissioners
Help Preserve Endangered Historic Cemeteries
Titus County Commissioners have lent a helping hand to help preserve cemeteries are in danger of damaged. Commissioner Bob Fitch took his crew to Kirby Cemetery on February 23, 2007 and removed two trees that were in danger of falling on the wrought iron fence surrounding the cemetery. They also dug out a grave marker that had fallen and been almost covered over by dirt and used string trimmers to trim the grass.
Commissioner Thomas Hockaday took his crew to Evans Cemetery on February 28, 2007 and repaired the front and back fences to keep livestock from doing further damage to markers in the cemetery.
Commissioner Mike Fields sent Joe Fejeran to begin cleaning Roper-Panther Cemetery on June 4, 2007. This is a major clean-up that will require at least 2 weeks to accomplish. As of June 8, Joe Fejeran's work has improved the cemetery so much that it looks like a different cemetery. High grass has been mowed, low hanging limbs have been trimmed, and the large tree that fell across several monuments has been sawed into sections and will soon be removed.
We appreciate our Commissioners for helping to preserve these cemeteries that do not have perpetual care funds or maintenance committees, and which each contain markers dating back into the 1800's.
